End PJ Paralysis is probably no longer a new phenomenon to many people in healthcare. For those unfamiliar with the phrase, this pragmatic movement calls upon healthcare providers and caregivers to routinely enable hospitalized patients to get up, dress in their personal clothes and move as much as possible instead of staying in bed wearing hospital gowns (pyjamas or PJ) for a prolonged period. This article shares personal perspectives explicating and rationalizing why people should consider this simple intervention and the benefits it embodies: preserving patient dignity, improving patient experience, reducing the length of hospitalization, reducing healthcare cost and preserving functioning.
