What Works for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC) has published a report Unlocking the facts: young people referred to secure children’s homes.
The report, using DfE data and research conducted by CASCADE Cardiff University, builds a clearer image of the lives of young people referred to secure children’s homes and the differences between those offered a place, and those who were placed in “alternative accommodation” (which includes less secure residential children’s homes, foster care and unregulated placements). The report draws attention to the adverse experiences of young people before, and after, they are referred to a SCH and reveals a system unable to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable children in our society.
