Older people are at an especially high risk of dehydration.

As we age, our thirst reflex can start to not work so well. We might become less mobile, worry about incontinence or have difficulty swallowing – all of these contribute to our risk of becoming dehydrated.

I-Hydrate was a project which involved staff in two care homes in London and researchers from the University of West London. Our aim was to optimise the amount of fluid consumed by older care home residents.

Using what we learned in the course of the project, we have created:

a downloadable resource pack and video series for use in care homes.

an infographic that anyone can use, with handy hints on preventing hydration in older people.
